The Call

In 25 years, no San Diego County police officer has been prosecuted for lethal force.

The Racial Justice Coalition of San Diego has made this record the basis of its Prosecute or Resign campaign, addressed to District Attorney Summer Stephan.

Prosecute or resign.

Who Is Calling

A unified front

The Racial Justice Coalition of San Diego County provides a unified front for advocacy and action against all forms of discrimination and unequal treatment, particularly in our underrepresented and underserved communities.

We specifically strive to challenge and transform the abusive law enforcement practices used in communities of color as we work with organizations and individuals to expose local racial abuses and inequities, and to work to change the laws, policies and unlawful police practices that allow for such abuses and inequities.

Racial Justice Coalition joins with other groups and individuals across the nation and around the world to end police brutality through resistance and community empowerment. Our ultimate goal is to live in a San Diego where racial and economic justice prevail throughout our society and, most especially, in its social institutions.

What We Work To End

With an eye toward the long-term structural changes that produce oppressive law enforcement policy, the Coalition works to end the use of these practices by police agencies in San Diego County.

  • Lethal force
  • Chokeholds
  • Curbing
  • Gang registration
  • Gang suppression units
  • Canine units
  • Purposefully weakened review boards

The Campaigns

Active

Prosecute or Resign

The Racial Justice Coalition of San Diego demands that DA Summer Stephan prosecute law enforcement officers that have brutalized and murdered community members for the last 25 years, and for law enforcement still engaged in abusive practices and specific incidents of police shootings and fatalities.

“I love jury trials; that is the best of our democracy, but our system is not set up for that.”

District Attorney Summer Stephan

There has been a significant lack of oversight of the police, and it is time for the DA to step up and take responsibility for police abuse and illegal actions.
