Unity Statement
We object.
Racial Justice Coalition joins with other groups and individuals across the nation and around the world to end police brutality through resistance and community empowerment.
We object to law enforcement agencies that use or encourage the use of lethal force, chokeholds, gang registration, curbing, Gang Suppression Units, canine units and purposefully weakened community review boards and other police policy and practice oversight boards in order to dehumanize and intimidate our communities.
Work and Expectations
With an eye toward long term structural changes that produce the related oppressive law enforcement policies and procedures, the Racial Justice Coalition will work to end the use of the following practices by police agencies in San Diego County.
- Curbing
- Gang registration
- Lethal force
- Gang suppression units
- Canine units
We will continue our work on changing policies and policy recommendations that affect our underrepresented and underserved communities. Our ultimate goal is to live in a San Diego where racial and economic justice prevail throughout our society and, most especially, in its social institutions.
Our Mission
The Racial Justice Coalition of San Diego County provides a unified front for advocacy and action against all forms of discrimination and unequal treatment, particularly in our underrepresented and underserved communities.
We specifically strive to challenge and transform the abusive law enforcement practices used in communities of color as we work with organizations and individuals to expose local racial abuses and inequities, and to work to change the laws, policies and unlawful police practices that allow for such abuses and inequities.
